Go Behind the Scenes in Prop Culture

Share

If you’re a movie buff, you know how important it is to preserve the history of film making. Prop Culture, a new Disney+ unscripted series premiering on May 1st, tracks down props, costume, art, and more from your favorite movies.

While you could enjoy a series about the behind the scenes of any movie,

Prop Culture introduces you to films that revolutionized the film industry. The series begins with a beloved classic, Mary Poppins, which blends animation and live-action together on the screen.

As someone who has been in the Disney Archives, I understand Dan’s excitement as a collector to visit and see some of the pieces that have been saved.

In the early years of Hollywood, cast and crew members took props and costume pieces home that were bound for the garbage. The show brings these pieces back into the light and showcases the hard work of crew members that built sets, costumes, and more.

The archives also let Dan take some of the pieces out to cast and crew members to touch and bring their crowning achievements to the front of their memories. This aspect of the show is what I love the most. Seeing people involved in the film, light up and talk about different aspects of the film.

When Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales premiered, I was honored to visit Los Angelos to take a walk through the history of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and how it was brought to the big screen. The Black Pearl even made a debut at the D23 Expo.

You may not realize that some of your favorite props have made it into the Disney Parks.

The original Aztec chest from The Curse of the Black Pearl not sits in the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

You walk away with a greater appreciation of the movie-making process. Gather your movie fans and enjoy the magic together. The series includes eight episodes about the following films:

  1. Mary Poppins
  2. Tron
  3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
  5. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
  6. The Chronicles of Narnia
  7. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  8. The Muppet Movie

Don’t miss Prop Culture coming to Disney+ on May 1st.
